New Haiera

I had enough!   So I broke down and visited the JCP salon down the road from me and my hair follicles are singing!

The 60's do is totally adorable and I can easily replicate it.  I also am loving the natural ash color.  There is nothing like returning to your roots.

Kookaburra sits in the old gumtree.

Yesterday I visited the Houston Zoo with my family and it a blast.  Here are some pics of all the awesome animals.

I never saw an armadillo before but now I definitely want one as a pet.

We also saw the Meerkat exhibit (my mom's favorite)

I think they thought we were going to feed them.

According to my mom (the expert) he/she is the lookout, watching the skies for birds who might try and eat them.  Instinct is still strong even in captivity.

Lounging in the sand.

Too Cute!

I found Nemo!

And Dory!

Albino Alligator. He has been at the Houston Zoo for as long as I can remember.

Apparently the little one doesn't fully understand how to play Leap Frog.

This reminded me of the very first pages of Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone.

It only slightly creeped me out that the world's deadliest snake stared me down.

Giraffe.  I am always amazed at how tall they really are.

Hungry giraffe = action shot!

Momma with baby!

Feed me!

This is Liberty.  She has been at the zoo for 10 years.  She was injured when someone shot her and has lost the ability to fly.

This is a Kookaburra. I had heard of the Kookaburra because of the old kids song but did not realize it was a real bird.  I also got to hear its call and it does in fact sound like laughter.
"Laugh Kookaburra, Laugh Kookaburra, save some gum for me."

Finally the awesome sea lions!  They were play fighting with each other trying to bite the others tails.

The zoo was so much fun!  I really have to go more than once every couple of years.

Two Guys, A Girl, and a Futon

I just got back home from at trip to College Station.  It was a packed couple of days and I didn't really have much time to update the blog but I am back and ready to write.

I spent the majority of the trip on a mission to find the perfect seat.  I searched furniture stores all over the College Station area by myself and with my friends Shawn and Jay and ended up buying a wooden futon for $100 off of Craigslist. I love my new futon.  It actually smells better then Kevin's apartment (where it is being stored till the big move).

During the search for the futon we stopped at the used furniture store seeing if there would be a nice find.  While there was a colorful assortment of couches and futons there was nothing that struck my eye especially when they were asking $300 for a used couch from the 80's. I found a much nicer, cleaner, newer, and better smelling couch at Big Lot's for the same price.  However, Kevin and I came to the conclusion that a futon would be best for our apartment so friends and family would have a place to sleep if need be and Jay and I came to the conclusion that a wood futon is much more adult than a metal one.

I will post pictures of the futon once I get it all dolled up.

Simple Mall Trip

This post will be a quick one.  I am in College Station for a couple of days and I decided to entertain myself by going to the mall.  I ended up in Charolette Russe and picked up these new neutral wedges and this awesome onesie!

I think I am slowly retreating back to my child hood and soon will be wearing clothes that have footies attached.   If that actually happens get me some help.  Well, first cut the footies off my outfit and then get me help.   Below are some fun pics of me in the onesie.  Kevin didn't mind taking the photos and let's face it, I didn't mind posing for them.

Old Blog Stuff

This is just stuff that I had from one of my previous blogs that I thought would be entertaining.

The way the acceptance email opens

The official acceptance letter/email hit the intertubes yesterday and ended up in my gmail account yesterday. It was a very tense thirty minutes after I rushed home from the mall to check my email account. But after a violent attack on my computer for taking to long to load, I did the happy grad school dance for the rest of the night. There is so much to think about. My thesis project, housing, insurance, and of course how is this all gonna be paid for? Big money, big money, big money!

Now for something completely different. Fairy tales are tales of wonder and enchantment but, let's be honest they are total B.S. Not only do they make the female helpless, they also insist on creating a false reality of perfectionism that no one (not even Martha Stewart) can obtain. Thus I have created a new series called Reality Ever After.

Rapunzel is sitting out on the balcony of her bedroom sipping her morning coffee and wondering what her beloved Prince Stew (you didn't think his REAL name was Charming did you?) was doing at the Renaissance Fair. (This is why you don't agree to marry someone you justlet down your hair to) .

She absentmindedly began to stroke her long luxurious hair when she realized that she was stroking thin air. Hrmph, she thought to her self as she ran her hand through her thick blond bob. It had been two weeks and she still had the occasional bout of phantom hair. It is going to grow back, it is going to grow back.

Only why did it have to take so long? 2 weeks had been long enough for her to fall in love and marry the love of her... well let's face it the only man she had EVER laid eyes on. He promised he could get her out of that damn tower and with that promise Stew's receding hair line and lager belly became his charming qualities. It was only when Stew carried her over the threshold of their 2 bedroom 2 bath apartment did Rapunzel realize the mess she had gotten herself into.

She had just begun to grow used to her humble abode when her loving husband broke the news that he would have to go on the road with the traveling fair and would not be back for a couple of weeks. He told her to find a hobby while she was waiting for him. Maybe crochet or knitting would keep her mind occupied while her prince was off playing with the wenches and warlocks.

Oh she had found her hobby. Rapunzel took her last sip of coffee and set her cup down on her desk. She sat down at her computer and began to read her email's for the day.

"Dear Mistress Zel ..."

BREAKING NEWS

TODAY'S HEADLINES

In Austin, Texas today, a crazy man flew his plane into a building that housed the IRS after he set his own house on fire. He did this because he had beef with the IRS. His crazy manifesto that is published online for all to read tells us this. A reporter on the local Houston news referred to this incident as an "accident." Now I am not one that likes to argue semantics but I don't see how flying a plane on a suicide mission into a federal building can be considered an accident. An accident is more like "Oops I spilled the milk", "Oh no, I locked my keys in my car " or even " Holy CRAP I shot you in the face!"

Thermodynamic Theatre

The very first "Today's Question"

Can any one person change the world? I am not trying to be pessimistic. I know that given certain circumstances one person can have an impact on a group of people. But does that impact have the ability to infiltrate so many people that it changes the world?

I am currently loving the great heat debate. Obviously all of the anchors on Fox news got their degrees in degrees. That is why they have become experts in the field of weather and climate. Clearly a thing like Global Warming could not exist when blizzards are attacking the United States. There is no such thing as cold water that might be coming from the South Pole's melting ice mixed with the Pacific water current thereby lowering the temperature of the water and creating the environment for a blizzard...that is just crazy talk and Al Gore is the king of crazy talk.

I love the dramatics of news programs. This performance of superiority. In truth that is what news is. Without the news people would be in the dark about the rest of the world. Before "Your Local News at 5" or the news paper people lived in their tiny towns, drank their sludge, farmed their master's land and never knew that other towns existed. With the invention of news, peasants became people in the know. And as we have all been told Knowledge is Power. Those who are in the know are the ones who hold the power and the news casters are the ones who are in the know. They are superior. The hold the power to inform either correctly or incorrectly and they always know before we do.

Do I have to acknowledge Valentine's Day?

Happy 14th of February! There. I am over it.

Today has been rather uneventful which is just exactly how I like it. After spending several weeks teaching children who didn't really want to be taught I am excited to have a couple of days off. While subbing is not my long term career position I have learned quite a lot about myself as a human and as a young female.

First, I have no patience for laziness. The fact that you don't "wanna" do something is not a good enough answer. If I had control of the world (plans are in the works) I would eliminate the answer choice "Don't Wanna" from the vast list of excuses. I do not care what you want to do. If you want to ever leave this place that you call hell A.K.A. public high school you need to keep your head off the desk and answer the 4 multiple choice questions.

Second, I am apparently attractive to 17 year old boys. Creepy.

Third, I can handle the complaining, name calling and constant state of rudeness from the children (excuse me) students OR I can deal with the disrespect, insincere attitude and naivete from the administration. However, when combined together they form a giant ball of CRAP IT that no one can withstand. God bless teachers like my mother who somehow manage to go to work everyday and NOT commit studentcide or administratorcide.

Whew! I got that off my chest. Now what shall I do with all of this free time?

Christmas is over let's move on to the new year.

I must confess; I went shopping today. Now I know, I know why would anyone volunteer themselves to go shopping the day after Christmas? Well, I was bored and there is only so much Dirty Jobs and Mythbusters a girl can watch in a 24 hour period. I decided to go out and find myself a craft project to do but *note to everyone* craft stores are not the greatest places to shop the day after one of the craftiest holidays next to Halloween. Michael's was DESTROYED.

Being unsatisfied by the lack of commercial product in Michael's I traveled down to Old Navy where I purchased two long sleeve shirts that were 60% off. Ah the one beautiful thing about shopping on the 26th of December... the sales!

Oh! I can't forget the buzz words of 2009. Ummm... Tiger Woods, Jon & Kate, Balloon Boy and Obama Health Care Plan. Yea that about covers it.

Growing Pains

Today I chose the practical over the pretty.

Wedges, fabulous, tan, wedges. V.S. boring, organizational accessory hangers

 WEDGES NOT PICTURED

While my choice to pick the organizational tools over the pretty wedges ended up being an easy one I still am saddened that I made the adult decision.   What is my life coming to that I choose the practical albeit less expensive over the fun and fanciful?  Whatever is going on needs to stop!  I am only 23 not 55.  Practical does not start till I get my AARP card.  You hear that brain! You have 32 years before you start making responsible decisions.

Chris Dayhoff

This, ladies and gentlemen, is a Harley Davidson hearse.

This is the vehicle that was used to carry Chris Dayhoff to his final resting place today.

There are a few things you should know about Chris:

New Dress

OK so this time around I am just showing off my new dress!  I got it at Ross for $12.99 plus tax.

When I first got to Ross I really had no intention of buying a dress but it was so pretty and so cheap and reminded me of a combination of two dresses that I had just seen in SATC 2.

Ok, Carrie Bradshaw, I ain't.  However, I love this dress. And damn I look good in it.

Let's Talk About Death Baby.

Let me start by saying if you are easily offended then 1) How have you made it this far?  2) You should stop reading now.

Alright.  Are they gone?  Good.

A lot of people that I know have died recently.  Not anyone that I am directly connected to but friends of family,  distant family of family and family of friends have passed on. By unspoken law I am bound to attend whatever services there are and this is not a problem for me.  I understand and most of the time want to be there for the friend or the family member.  I say most of the time because some of the time I have to go to a viewing.

For those of you not in the know a viewing is a funereal event  where the body of the dead person is put on display and people can come and pay their last respects and make sure the person is actually dead. (just in case they are trying to pull a fast one)  Once again I completely understand why a viewing might be necessary  event within the grieving process.  However, it creeps me the hell out.

First, there is the space issue.  You are standing in a room talking to the other people there, having a conversation about what your plans are the next weekend and there is a dead person in the room with you!  2 feet away from you!  Second, is the conversation.  It never fails that someone will utter the 3 most awkward words to say about a dead person.  "He/She looks good."  They're dead!  How do you look good dead?  If he looked bad would you still have the viewing?   Finally, the food.  Cookies?  Really?  "Hmmm my appetite has suddenly been stirred by that coffin over there.  I sure could use a cookie."

When I go, I want a big party with lots of drinking.  At least then, the more people drink the more it will make sense that my dead body is hanging out with them at the party.

Or maybe I'll just get cremated.

Hello, Hell?  Hand basket for one please.

Maybe its the Neopolitin talking.....

Woo hoo!  I am unemployed!  Being that my job is to sub for teachers and that teachers are no longer working it must follow that I am no longer working.  On my first day of unemployment I visited my local cinemaplex and took in movie. Sex and the City 2.  I loved it.  I have read reviews and critics claim that the plot is then and the movie is way to long but I dare say that the critics don't get it.

Even before I had HBO I was a SATC fan.  I would watch the show on TBS and then decided that I wanted to invest in the series buying up all the seasons when I could find them. I fell in love with the women of SATC and was able to identify with all of the characters but like most girls I want to be Carrie. For the first time on television there was a show that portrayed women as strong, independent, sexual beings.  No longer was the woman stuck in the 30 min sitcom nagging her husband and minding her children.  She was now a ball busting business women who had lots of sex and was even allowed to enjoy it. REVELATION!

Then there is the fifth character of the series and that is New York City.   She is the glamour of the show. . I watched SATC for that glamour just as much as the story lines. A whole new world opened up to me.  A world of shoes, bags, dresses, fashion....my god the fashion.

The latest story line may be a little thin but if you know and love the characters then you love the story.  It works because for a short time (approx. 146 minutes) you get to catch up with your girlfriends over some cosmos and compliment each other's shoes.

Im still here.

I haven't posted anything in such a long time.  It feels like weeks!   I guess I have been busy with what is left of my life.  I worked all last week packing my favorite teachers classroom and she is so awesome that she gave me a serious gift card to put towards buying an Amazon Kindle!  I love when people support my reading obsession.

I also spent the afternoon at the emergency room with my mom and her bf's dad.  Let's just say the 90 year old man spent a good chunk of change and 3 hours of everyones life so that a doctor could tell him that he is not constipated.

Not much of real interest has happened in my life in a while and I just can not wait till I move back up to C.S. and get to live again!

P.S.  Cardboard boxes give sneaky paper cuts that you only find when cleaning your nails with acetone. DAMN that burns.
